In his native Frankfurt, Pedo is known as a jack of all trades: being a passionate underground music activist as well as a diverse & dexterous selector blending mind-blowing music from remote corners of the globe seamlessly. Together with his associates he promotes numerous club nights and concerts in his hometown including the city’s longest running & most successful summer party LAZY., the fabled Afro jamboree Africadelay and the Saravá session with a Brazilian focus. Saravá is a clubnight and monthly radio show focussing on Brazilian sounds. Within this framework Pedo Knopp his partner Guy Dermosessian dive into the depth of Brazilian music traditions, exploring sonic treasures from North-Eastern Quilombos to the Amazon to the concrete jungle of São Paulo and beyond. From old to new, classic to obscure, from spiritual to ritual to secular.
Pedo has been invited to do guest mixes for numerous radio shows, compiled award-winning CDs for Europe’s largest Japanese film festival Nippon Connection and worked as a music consultant. And of course he has travelled Europe and parts of the world with his partner Samy Ben Redjeb: As Analog Africa Soundsystem they played festivals and clubs in cities like Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Basel, Dar es Salaam, Helsinki, Istanbul, Kopenhagen, Krakow, London, Luanda, Manchester, Paris, Rio De Janeiro and São Paulo.
As a promoter and dj Pedo has presented many high calibre acts in the last twenty years including Anibal Velasquez, Ebo Taylor, Electric Wire Hustle, Funkommunity, Jamie Woon, Jimmy Edgar, Karl Hector & the Malcouns, Konono No. 1, Orchestre Poly-Rythmo De Cotonu, Poets Of Rhythm, Sharon Jones, Staff Benda Bilili, The Souljazz Orchestra, Xantoné Blacq plus prime djs such as Amir, Alma Negra, Antal, DJ Day, DJ Okapi, DJ Pãulao, DJ Tahira, Esa, Florian Keller, Gilles Peterson, Habibi Funk, Hugo Mendez, Inverse Cinematics (aka Motor City Drum Ensemble), Kon, Mendel, Mr. Thing and Nickodemus.
